The Mirror of Erised (Post #3) by Nick Tyndall, Emilia Soeltz and Julia Sheehan

The Mirror of Erised is an incredible technology. It allows the user to see whatever it is that they desire most in the world. It can also be used to hide or protect valuable objects. Dumbledore used this feature in 1992 when he hid the Sorcerer’s Stone in the mirror. While it is remarkable, the Mirror of Erised could only exist in a fantasy world like that of Harry Potter. When we discussed the mirror as a group, we agreed that if the mirror was brought into our world, it would simply be a material object. “Identity development is through material objects and the mirror shows the identity that someone is striving after” (Heilman). All three of us had a fun time learning about the mirror and its powers. It lead us to consider the question that the Mirror of Erised raises, what are our biggest desires?
