This technology does seem somewhat feasible in the not too distant future. I do not think it would be to exactly the extent that it shown in the movies, but it would be similar. In my own opinion, it should not be used in warfare. This would create an entirely new breed of fighting and destruction that would eventually cause immense damage to society. Instead, I personally would use it to slice bread and have instant toast.
