Period 6 Group 7-Invisibility in the real world

“‘And then Death asked the third and youngest brother what he would like. The youngest brother was the humblest and also the wisest of the brothers, andhe did not trust Death. So he asked for something that would enable him togo forth from that place without being followed by Death. And Death, mostunwillingly, handed over his own Cloak of Invisibility.”’“Death’s got an Invisibility Cloak?” Harry interrupted again." (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows)
This is an invisibility cloak, not a decapitated head. This particular invisibility cloak, present in the famed J.K. Rowling series, Harry Potter, was a gift from Harry's parents. Said to be the cloak of legend in the Deathly Hallows, the user of such a cloak is granted invisibility from even death itself. This is the essence of fantasy itself, the ability to go undetected under the eyes of men, however that fantasy is turning into a reality. Scientists today are developing meta-materials capable of bending the visible wavelengths of light around it, shielding the wearer from peering eyes. This is how the invisibility cloak of legend is becoming reality.
This is the modern-day prototype of an "invisibility cloak", it functions by bending the electromagnetic spectrum, specifically the visible portion of light, around it. This is a tremendous step in the scientific field with a myriad number of applications. These range from camouflage to "plasmonic cloaking", the ability to hide an object from microwaves. As the material is researched more, great changes will occur especially in military fronts due to the greater opportunities for stealth missions. The cost will not be cheap, but the opportunities offered by the advancement of this research will be tremendous. The day when fantasy becomes reality is soon approaching, where will you be when it comes?
